When I first heard of Matthew McGinn, he went by “Courage Call”. The instant I heard, “Change Your Mind” I heard his genuine talent and his adorable vocals. The song was a little creepy, (“I’m just going where ever you are”), but apparently it’s supposed to be funny (I see the humor, but I’m not sure creepy people would haha). While Courage Call’s songs are catchy and fun, Matthew McGinn has done a little soul searching and maturing to bring us his self-titled project. Matthew is the boy next door; charismatic, charming and sweet. He kind of reminds me of the talented Jonas Brother (Nick, but I bet you knew before I said it). Here’s a taste of both but make sure to go to his myspace, as I LOVE his song “Maybe This Will Be My Year.”

What’s better than a cute guy that can sing? A cute guy that can sing with a twin! WIN.
Trey and Ty are twin brothers from Florida. If you like acoustic, pop rock, singer/songwriter type of stuff – you’re about to fall head over heels my friend! On top of all this, there’s an uncanny vocal resemblance to John Mayer. Yes, John Mayer. Just listen to “Invincible”:

Told you, I wasn’t lying. Now, if that’s not enough, you have to check out their covers. I love when rock bands cover r&b/hip-hop so when I came upon their youtube page, I was happy. But! I can’t figure out which cover is better, Drake’s “Find Your Love” or Usher’s “Burn”, so here’s both:
Have I convinced you to check them out for yourself and buy their latest record, Love Is The Answer? Well, here’s one last attempt, a beautiful love song by The Icarus Account, “Tidal Waves & Hurricanes”:

Oh Tyrone. I don’t even know where to start with Tyrone Wells. I was in High School and my friend took me to Azusa Pacific University to hang out with a friend and watch a concert outside. No idea what I was getting into. We sat on the grass, indian style, and watching Tyrone play. I was blown away. A good singer-songwriter knows how to tell stories and that’s why their songs are so interesting but Tyrone Wells has this way of just luring you in and you can’t help but to listen to every word he has to say. Since that day, I saw him plenty of times at his residency at Plush Cafe, Troubador shows, etc. He played at UCSB and I sat there front table and sang along every word. Afterwards he came up to ME and told me how great it felt to have me sing along to his songs. I took my sister and cousin to see him at the El Rey and they fell in love too! EVERYONE who goes to see Tyrone play love him. There are so many of his songs I love, to name a few: Looking at her face, No Good Without You, Falling, Wondering where you are, More, Dream like NY, hate song, and my absolute favorite, “Sea Breeze”. I want Tyrone to play at my wedding ceremony <3
Back when I still went to school in Santa Barbara…or was it High School? My best friend could answer that for me but anyway I went to a tiny cafe in Fullerton called Plush Cafe because Tyrone Wells (more on him to come) had a residency there and nothing was better than to crowd into a tiny back room to enjoy Tyrone’s stories and songs. One night we had the pleasure to see Angel Taylor play before him. She announced she had just that day signed to John Mayer’s label under Columbia Records. The most memorable thing I remember from that performance, besides that she was really good, was her song “Chai Tea Latte”. Such a cute and clever song. It’s one of those songs that didn’t sound like it worked at first but then it just sticks to you. Fast forward a few years later and I’m promoting her record and show! She’s truly a genuine artist. Must give her a listen. My favorites are first 3 tracks but the rest of the record is really good.
Amazing voice, great songwriting, and guitar solo by John Mayer – what could be better than that?!
The record could have opened with a better song. When I first popped in the cd, it didn’t catch me right away. It wasn’t until I heard “Only One” that I was hooked. Probably because it was a beautiful love song and I’m a sucker for those. My favorite line is “first day I met, told everyone I knew, I was going to get you whatever I do” *swoon*. John Mayer appears on his track “Time to Move” playing guitar and I love guitar solos. John Mayer does no wrong in my opinion. ”Better Days” is a feel good song that reminds you tomorrow will be a better day – I know, that’s cheesy but good singer-songwriter music like this really does put me in a good mood. Then it gets a little depressing with the last track, “Nobody No More” but I love the guitar in this song. Give him a listen, you won’t regret it.
I can’t wait to see Crosby Loggins live! Someone let me know when he’s playing in LA…
